How Can I Clean Up Blue Chrome Motorcycle Exhaust?

High heat flowing out of a motorcycle engine can cause the chrome exhaust to discolor, especially if the pipes are single-walled. If you prefer your exhaust pipes to have a silvery sparkle and shine, it can be accomplished with a little chrome polish and a little elbow grease.

• Water
• Non-abrasive sponges
• Mild detergent
• Bucket
• Cleaning rags
• Chrome polish

Instructions

1. Park the motorcycle on a level surface. Let the bike cool down. Exhaust pipes can become dangerously hot after the engine is run.

2. Using a non-abrasive sponge and a bucket of hot sudsy water, clean the exhaust pipes to remove any dirt or grease. Rinse with clean water and allow to dry.

3. Select a polish specifically designed for removing blue discolorations from chrome. Follow the manufacturer's directions to apply the polish. Typically, you will need to create a paste and rub it into the chrome with a rag, using small circular motions.

4. Repeat this process until all the discoloration is gone. Wipe off any residue with a clean dry cloth.
