How to Burn AVI Files to a CD-RW
Unlike standard CD-Rs, which can only be written to one time and cannot have disc information deleted once it has been written, CD-RWs can be written to again and again and the disc information can be deleted at any time. Regardless of the differences in the discs, though, the writing process is the same. While AVI files are large video files that cannot be stored on a standard CD-RW, many burning programs have the ability to upload AVI files and convert them while they are burning to the CD-RW, creating a VCD, or video CD, of the disc.

1
Download a burning application that can both write to CD-RW and convert AVIs during the course of the burning process (see Resources section for three examples). Install the burning application to your computer.
-
2
Insert a CD-RW disc into the computer's CD- or DVD-burning drive. Launch the burning application that you installed.
-
-
3
Pull the AVI file into the burning program. Most programs contain a button on the main page, labeled "Add Files" or "Import Video," that you can use to add files to the burning program. Once you click the button, wait for the browse window to appear, locate the AVI file on the computer's hard drive, click on the file and click the "Open" button to add it to the burning program.
-
4
Go through the screens in the burning application. Each burning application is slightly different, but the following screens usually give you the option to customize the menus on the video CD and make other alterations to the disc's appearance.
-
5
Click the "Burn" or "Write" button that appears on the last page of the burning program. The AVI file writes to the CD-RW disc. When the writing process is complete, the CD-RW disc is usually automatically ejected from the drive.
