How to Clean a Cast Iron Barbecue Grill
Barbecue grills provide years of enjoyment and delicious meals to families who use them. Cast iron grills are popular because of their ability to retain heat longer. They are also likely to last longer than other kinds of grills. You will want to take care of your cast iron grill by keeping it clean so that you can enjoy it for years to come.

- Sea salt
- Cooking oil
- Old rags
- Paper towels
- Brass, copper or stainless steel grill brush
- Aluminum foil
- Dish washing soap
- Steel wool pads

Create a fire in the pit of the grill and close the lid. Allow the grill to heat up for 10 minutes.

Scrape the iron grates with a brass, copper or stainless steel grill brush. Use the brush to remove any grease or burned food that may be on the grill. Allow the grill to cool before proceeding.

Remove the cast iron grates from the grill.

Mix 1 cup liquid dish soap and 1 cup sea salt into a paste. Scrub the cast iron grates with the paste using another grill brush. Allow this mixture to dry onto the grill for 30 minutes.

Rinse the cast iron grates with warm water and dry them off with paper towels. Coat both sides of the grates with a generous amount of cooking oil.

Place the cast iron grates back on to the grill. Light the fire in the grill again and close the lid. Allow the grates with the cooking oil to sit over the fire for at least 1 hour. Let the grill cool off before proceeding.

Coat the cast iron grates on both sides again with cooking oil. Apply a small amount of cooking oil to a rag and wipe down the exterior of the grill to keep it looking good.
