How to Make Goo With Borax
Whether you call it goo, slime, ooze or any other name, the classic recipe for borax-based toy goop is as much fun to make as it is simple and inexpensive. While this solution is great for teaching basic chemistry lessons or for demonstrating biology concepts (such as the role of mucus in the body), children also love to play with this solution for no reason at all, simply enjoying the feeling of muck in their hands.
Things You'll Need
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 cup white craft glue
- Food coloring
- 2 teaspoons borax
- Mixing bowls
- Airtight resealable container
Instructions

1
Pour the glue into the mixing bowl and add an equal amount of warm water. Add the water gradually, stirring it until the mixture is of an even, smooth consistency.
-
2
Add two drops of food coloring to the glue mixture. Mix thoroughly.
-
-
3
Mix borax and remaining water in a separate bowl. Stir until you've dissolved as many of the borax granules as possible (they may not all dissolve, but this is all right).
-
4
Start to add the borax solution to the colored glue solution. Stir the glue solution with one hand and add the borax liquid a little at a time with the other.
-
5
After adding every new portion of borax water, stir the mixture well and observe how thick it's become. Add a little more borax if you want it to be thicker, and continue until you get the goo the way you want it.
-
6
Store the finished goo in an airtight, resealable container.
