In the age of the camcorder, more and more people are creating videos of their family get-togethers, vacations and local sporting events. But if after you have loaded these videos on your computer and then decide that you would like to have a still image from the footage, you will need a program to do this, especially if you want to resize the image to fit a particular format, such as 16x9. Fortunately, if you have Photoshop this process is relatively quick and painless.

Instructions

      Open the video that you want to get you image from in your favorite video player. Maximize the player to fill the screen. When the player reaches the point in the video with the image you want, hit "Pause" in the player.

      Hit "Print Screen" on your keyboard. This will store the current contents of your screen in the computer clipboard. If your printer tries to print the screen, cancel the print job.

      Open Photoshop. Select "File" and click "New." In the dialog that pops up change the increments from pixels to inches. Then make size of the document 16x9 inches. Make the resolution 300 and click "OK."

      Select "Edit" from the menu and click "Paste." The image will be placed in a separate layer on the canvas.

      Select "Edit," then "Transform" and click "Scale." In the options at the top, set the scale to "Constrained" (by clicking on the little lock). Then resize the image to fit the canvas. Sine the proportions are different some cropping will occur.

      Select "File" and click "Save." In the dialog that pops up, name your file and save it as a high resolution JPEG.
