How to Change a Power Steering Pump on 1994 Chevy S10

The power steering pump on the 1994 Chevy S10 is located on the upper driver's side of the engine. The power steering pulley is mounted in front of the pump and must be removed to gain excess to the power steering pump. There is a fluid reservoir connected to the top of the power steering pump as well that must be removed. This is not a difficult job to complete if you have knowledge of the Chevy S10 engine.

Things You'll Need

• Pulley tool
• Power drill
• Wrench
• Ratchet set
• New power steering pump

Instructions

1. Connect the pulley tool to the face of the power steering pulley. Tighten the securing key on the pulley tool on the securing nut in the middle of the power steering pump pulley. Connect the tip of the power drill to the pulley tool. Use the power drill to loosen the securing nut. Remove the drive belt from the pulley and remove the pulley from the engine.

2. Place the drain container under the power steering pump and remove the drain plug from the bottom of the pump using the wrench. Allow the power steering pump fluid to completely drain from the power steering pump. Replace the drain plug to the bottom of the power steering pump.

3. Remove the securing bolts from the sides of the power steering pump and the power steering pump fluid reservoir. Pull the reservoir and pump off of the engine. Loosen the small nut the is connecting the fluid reservoir hose to the pump and disconnect the pump from the hose.

4. Place the new power steering pump in the same place as the old one. Replace the securing bolts to the sides of the new pump and tighten them using the ratchet set. Connect the hose on the fluid reservoir to the new pump. Replace the securing bolts to the reservoir securing it to the engine.

5. Replace the power steering pump pulley to the engine and secure it using the pulley tool the same way that you remove it. Replace the drive belt to the pulley. Fill the power steering pump reservoir with power steering pump fluid.
