How to Make a Snake Bracelet
Snakes are scary to some people and fascinating to others. For those who find them fascinating, snake-themed jewelry makes a cool accessory. Young children, who often see snakes as exciting creatures, love to draw pictures of them. Here's a project that will teach them to translate their snake drawings into soft fabric snake bracelets.
Things You'll Need
- String
- Scissors, round nose
- 1 sheet sticky felt, green
- 1 sheet standard felt, pink
- Glitter glue, assorted colors
- Marker
- Pencil
- Velcro, sticky tabs
Instructions

1
Measure your wrist to determine how long you will make the bracelet. Wrap a string around your wrist and cut it at the fit you want the bracelet to have. The cut string is the template for the length of your bracelet.
-
2
Lay down a sheet of green sticky felt with the backing paper facing up on a table. Lay the string down on the backing paper and make a dot with a marker at the beginning and end of the string.
-
-
3
Start at the first dot and draw an "S." Rotate the sheet of sticky felt 180 degrees and draw another "S" that connects where the previous one left off. Rotate the sticky felt back to its original position and draw another "S." Keep repeating this process until you have drawn a squiggly "S" line from the first dot to the second one. This forms the top half of the snake's body
-
4
Draw a second squiggly line 1/2 inch below the first line that directly mirrors it. This forms the bottom half of the snake's body.
-
5
Draw a circle at one end of the squiggly body for the head of the snake. Draw a snake's tail at the opposite end with two lines that curve down at a gradual right angle and eventually meet at a point.
-
6
Cut out the snake's body along the outside edge of the marker lines.
-
7
Peel off the backing paper from the snake cut-out and press the green felt, sticky side down, onto the sheet of pink felt.
-
8
Draw a forked tongue with a pencil on the pink felt. Draw it so a "Y" shape is coming out of the snake's head where the mouth is naturally located on a real snake.
-
9
Cut out the snake shape by cutting around the green felt snake body. Cut the Y-shaped snake tongue out of the pink felt.
-
10
Use assorted colors of glitter glue to make design patterns on the green snake body. Add two dots for the snake's eyes.
-
11
Cut out two tabs of Velcro with sticky glue on the back. Remember that one has to be the positive side and the other the negative side of the fastener so that when the two are pressed together, they will stick. Place one tab under the snake head. Place the second tab on top of the tail where it begins to bend. Wrap the snake around your wrist and press the tabs together.

Tips & Warnings
If you can't find sticky felt, apply regular craft glue to standard felt. Allow the glue to dry completely before wearing the bracelet.
