How to Draw Army People
Drawing Army people is relatively easy. Start with a basic human shape, then add in details as you go. Once you've mastered figure drawing, you'll be able to draw Army people of every rank.

Sketch an oval to act as the Army person's head. The length of this oval will act as a guide for the rest of your drawing.

Measure the head you've drawn with a ruler. Generally, humans are about seven "heads" tall. Lightly mark your Army person's body in paper. The second "head" should fall at the chest, the third at the waist, the fourth at the groin, the fifth above the knee, the sixth below the knee and the seventh at the feet.

Sketch a light skeleton to guide your drawing. Keep in mind other proportions, including where the elbow falls (usually around the bellybutton) and the width of the shoulders (usually about two heads wide).

Draw the Army person's musculature in around the skeleton. Decide whether you'd like your figure to have big, bulging muscles, as well as whether you want your figure to be male or female.

Give your army person a helmet. This should look like a semicircle that completely covers the top quarter of the head. Add details such as helmet straps, coverings and hair hanging down on either side of the head.

Use your pictures of Army people to draw in uniform details, including rank insignia, dog tags, jacket cuffs and collars and weapon straps.

Draw boots pointing slightly to the left and right. Depending on the reference material, you may want to have the pant legs tucked into the boot tops.

Add details such as facial features, hands (they should be curved in the shape of the letter "C"), clothing wrinkles and shadows.

Make minor adjustments and finishing touches on your drawing. Retrace your finished product with a felt-tip pen to make the outline bolder. If you want, color your figure in with markers or colored pencils.

Remember to draw preliminary steps in lightly so that they can be changed or erased later.
