How to Secure Podcasting
You can create a secure podcast and restrict public access to your proprietary media or sensitive internal corporate information. Use secure podcasting to furnish paid content for a membership website, supply specialized media for employee training on a company intranet or simply control audience access to a wired or wireless network podcast.

Create a Secure Podcast Channel

Set up two subdirectories on your hosting server in your home directory. Designate one for your podcast media files and assign it password access per your hosting company procedures for keeping a directory on your server secure. Set up the other directory with open access for the RSS Feed management file.

Upload your podcast media to the password-protected directory on your server. Use your RSS feed creation software to create your podcast feed per the documentation with the software.

Upload your RSS feed XML file to the open access directory on your host server. Verify your secure podcast feed by pasting the feed address URL from your feed creation software into your browser. You should get a window requesting username and password. Enter the assigned username and password to verify your podcast access. You can add the podcast feed URL to your blog or website for access by site visitors.

Go to the Feedburner website and enter your feed URL into the feed address window. Select "Smartcast" and verify that the feed title and Feedburner URL are correct. Select "next" and enter the username and password you created. You should get a confirmation page with your Feedburner title and URL.

Go to www.feedvalidator.org and enter your Feedburner URL to validate your feed. You should get a feed validation confirmation. Test your feed with a podcasting client to verify its operation.

Most content management systems (CMS) and blogging platforms, such as Wordpress, have plugins for setting up restricted access to podcasts. Consult the user documentation with your platform for information on how to implement this.
