How to Take Off the 4X4 Durango Logo

Logo badges on the Dodge Durango designate the make, model and certain options on the vehicle. The 4x4 logo declares the vehicle is a four wheel drive. While many Dodge owners love them, some prefer to remove them to give the Durango's skin a clean look. The logo badges are adhered with a special double sided tape. If you need to remove or install a logo badge, make sure you perform the process when the Durango is clean and the ambient temperature is over 60 degrees F.

Instructions

    • 1

Heat the 4x4 Durango logo badge with the hair dryer for several minutes. This will weaken the two sided tape.

    • 2

Wrap the dental floss around both hands, leaving 8 to 10 inches of loose floss between your hands. Slip the loose section under the edge of the 4x4 Durango logo badge and pull the floss through to the other side, moving back and forth with your hands as you go so the floss can cut through the two sided tape with a sawing motion. The logo badge will fall off when you are done.

    • 3

Scrape the excess tape off the side of the Durango with the detailing razor. These razors are plastic replicas of actual razor blades. You can purchase detailing razors at most auto parts stores

    • 4

Put on the gloves and apply a spot of acetone to the clean rag. The spot should be roughly the size of a silver dollar. Rub the acetone onto the remaining adhesive. Acetone cuts adhesive and will allow you to rub the remainder off with the rag. You may need to reapply the acetone to the rag several times to complete this step.

    • 5

Wipe any leftover acetone off the Durango's paint and apply wax to the area with a clean rag. The acetone will not only cut the adhesive, it will also strip the wax away from the Durango's finish. If you plan to reinstall the badge, make sure to remove the wax before hand, with a good quality automotive wax remover. Never remove wax with acetone or any other harsh chemical.

Tips & Warnings

  • Acetone is the key ingredient in nail polish remover. If you have polished nails, make sure you avoid direct physical contact with the acetone during this procedure.
