How to Reapply for a Work Permit Card Online
To be employed in the United States you must be a citizen, a lawful permanent resident, or a conditional resident. If you aren't, you need a work permit from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Once the work permit expires you must reapply for a new one. Getting a permit used to require waiting in long lines and mailing forms back and forth. Now you can apply online.

Visit the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website at www.uscis.gov to get the process started. Once on the site select "Forms," then "Employment Based Forms" to get to the I-765 form, which is the Application for Employment Authorization.

Note the eligibility requirements. You are not eligible to e-file your application if you live outside the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands; if you are applying for a waiver of the filling fee or requesting to expedite the application process; if your are trying to correct data due to an administrative error; or if your situation falls under any of the other restrictions listed on the application instruction form.

Determine the filling fee for the application as you may not need to pay the $340 fee. If you have filed Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status on July 30, 2007, or after and paid that fee, you do not have to pay the $340. You will have to submit a copy of your Form I-797C to prove you paid the I-485 fee.

Once you have verified the information you can start completing the form online by filling and submitting the PDF form. You can submit your payment for the fee with a credit or debit card. The USCIS accepts American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa. You can also pay with an electronic transfer from a checking or savings account.

You can track the progress of your application by filling out form G-1145; this will allow USCIS to notify you by email when you application has been accepted. You also can track the progress of your application by visiting the USCIS website.
