Instructions

  1. Blot Up the Coffee First

    • 1

Blot up as much coffee as you can by pressing the spill with paper towels.

    • 2

Use new towels as each one gets dirty.

    • 3

Work from the outside of the stain towards the inside. Don't scrub or rub--that just forces the coffee further into the fabric.

    Hydrogen Peroxide Method

    • 4

Mix 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide, the kind you find in the first aid section of the drugstore, with 2 tbsp. of non-sudsy ammonia.

    • 5

Dip a white washcloth into the mixture and saturate the stained area.

    • 6

Place folded paper towels over the stain.

    • 7

Weigh down the towels with heavy books. Place a terry cloth towel between the paper towels and the book if you don't want to get the book wet.

    • 8

Remove the towels after an hour. The stain will have been drawn into the paper towels. Let dry and repeat if necessary.

    White Vinegar Method

    • 9

Mix 1/3 cup of white vinegar with 2/3 cup water.

    • 10

Dip a white washcloth into the vinegar mixture and saturate the stain. Work from the outside to the inside.

    • 11

Blot the stain with another clean dry white cloth or paper towels.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a white clean cloth so any dyes in the cloth don't transfer to the fabric you're trying to clean.

  • Don't breath the ammonia while you're pouring it into the hydrogen peroxide. The fumes are very strong.
