Instructions

    • 1

Open the graphics program on your computer. Click "File" and then "New" and make a new raster layer with dimensions of 8.5 inches by 11 inches. Fill in the background color of the layer with white.

    • 2

Click the "Preset Shape" tool and browse through the shapes until you find the shape of a gift tag you like. Look for a tag that incorporates something from the Christmas season for best results. Select the tag shape by highlighting it with your mouse. Place a check mark to the left of the box "Create as Vector" to ensure the shape you create becomes a layer in itself.

    • 3

Position your mouse onto the raster layer and click the left mouse button. Drag your mouse across the raster layer to draw the gift tag shape on the layer. Make the tag slightly less than one-third of the width of the raster layer.

    • 4

Select a background color for the tag (red or green perhaps) and select the "Flood Fill" tool. Click your mouse once inside the boundaries of the tag to fill the color into the tag.

    • 5

Select a font, a font size and a font color from above the workspace. Position your cursor inside the tag, click your mouse once and enter the word "To:" as the top line of the tag. Press "Enter" and the text will appear on the tag. Position your cursor below the "To:" and click your mouse. Enter the word "From:" and hit "Enter."

    • 6

Proofread your tag and make sure it looks the way you desire.

    • 7

Click "Layers" and "Duplicate" to make another tag exactly like the first tag. Click "Layers" again and "Duplicate" again to make a third tag. Position all three tags across the top of the raster layer from the left edge to the right edge.

    • 8

Highlight the first tag layer and merge down the three tag layers so they are one layer. Click "Layers" and then "Duplicate" to make a second line of three tags across the raster layer. Repeat the duplication process to create as many rows of tags as you can fit on the raster layer.

    • 9

Click "Layers" and then "Merge All" to merge all the layers into one layer.

    • 10

Select "File" and then "Save As" to save your tags. Name the tags an easily identifiable name (such as Christmas Gift Tags) and save the file on your hard drive.

    • 11

Place a piece of card stock into the printer and print out your file. Cut apart the tags with a scissors and affix them to your gifts.
