How to Connect 2 Computers to Bell South DSL

How to Connect 2 Computers to Bell South DSL thumbnail
Use a router to connect multiple computers to a Bell South modem.

If you have DSL service from Bell South, you were provided with a DSL modem when you first signed up for the service. This type of modem has only one connection on it for connecting to a computer, so if you only have the DSL modem, you can only connect one computer to the internet. By connecting to the DSL modem to a router, you can connect multiple computers to the internet connection.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug your router into a power outlet. Use one network cable to go from the internet output jack on the DSL modem to the internet input jack on the router.

    • 2

Connect your computers to the router using network cables. Log in to one computer and open an internet browser.

    • 3

Navigate to the IP address of the router on your internet browser. This IP address is usually 192.168.1.1 or something similar, but you can find out the exact IP address by looking in your router's user manual.

    • 4

Set up the wireless connection on the router, if necessary, which will enable laptops or computers with wireless cards to connect to your router. This setting can be found under the "Wireless" section of the router. Write down the "Network Key" or "Network Password" listed in this section, as it will be needed by each wireless computer that connects to the router
