How to Create a Good Card Invitation
Invitation cards are used to invite guests to everything from weddings and graduations to family reunions and charity events. Creating a good invitation card involves both finding the design and the words to suit the event. A good card invitation is the first element of a successful gathering. With a word processor or a desktop publishing program, creating a good invitation card has never been easier.

1
Sketch a design idea on paper before you begin. Consider the event and how the design will mesh with the event. Wedding and graduation invitations may be more elegant or formal than a simple family reunion invitation. Think about the type of writing, paper colors and image ideas you might want to include. Get a basic idea on paper.

2
Select a word processor or desktop publishing program to help you design your perfect card. Most major word processors and desktop publishing programs have templates to help you get started. Create a new file and select a card template that most closely resembles the kind of card you want to create.

Edit the card template you choose. First select the template text and remove it from the template by pressing "delete," then type in your own text. Include all important information for the event invitation. This includes the purpose of the invitation itself, along with instructions on how to get to the event, time of the event and any special instructions. For a family reunion, this might be instructions to bring a covered food item to the event. Use the drop-down text menu to select a font style and color, keeping in mind the type of card stock you intend to print your card on. Be sure to include whether a response or confirmation for the information is needed.

4
Select and delete any template images. Use the "Insert" menu to add your own image to the invitation. Be careful not to include too many pictures in your invitation. The point of an invitation is to give important details on the event. Too many images can make an invitation look uninviting and may distract from the text.

5
Choose card stock to print your card on. There are numerous colors and textures available for card stock that can make your home-printed invitations look professional. Choose a color that isn't harsh on the eyes. For wedding invitations and graduation invitations, consider going with something soft that gives the card a classier feel. The card stock you choose will go a long way toward making your invitation the best it can be.
