How to Make Clothing Patches at Home
Whether you need to repair a pair of ripped jeans or you simply want to make a custom patch to jazz up your clothing, you can easily create clothing patches at home. These patches are fast and easy to make and will adhere to cloth in the same way as the patches that you can buy in a store. You can purchase all the materials you need at your local craft shop. Things You'll Need
- Cloth
- Iron-on adhesive paper
- Quilter's or sewing pen with disappearing ink
- Scissors
- Template
- Iron
- Ironing board (optional)

Cut a square out of the cloth that you have chosen for your patch. If you are using the patch to cover a hole in your clothing, then you should cut the square so that it is about an inch larger than the hole.

Draw an outline of the shape that you wish the patch to be with a quilter's or sewing pen. This type of pen has ink that will disappear when it is washed. You can also print out a shape from online to use as a template to make cutting easier. Cut out this shape.

Trace the shape onto a piece of adhesive paper. Follow the instructions that came with your adhesive material to add it to the back of the patch that you have cut out; this will usually involve ironing the patch to the adhesive. Allow your patch to cool before attaching it to your clothing.

Tips & Warnings
To keep your patched clothing in good shape, wait 24 hours after you have applied the patch before washing. Wash the garment on the gentle cycle and allow to air-dry.
