You might want to get rid of a chain link fence to make way for a wooden privacy fence, or just to remove a fence that has become an eyesore over the years. A chain link fence has two types of posts. The larger terminal posts are used at the ends of the fence and on either side of a gate. Line posts support the length of the fence. The posts will probably be cemented in, while wire ties and brace bands secure the fence to the posts. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the wire ties off with the wire cutters. Remove the bolts from the brace bands with the adjustable wrench. Lay the fence flat on the ground in front of the posts.

    • 2

Roll the fence up tightly. Move it off to the side.

    • 3

Jiggle the posts back and forth to loosen them from the soil. If you can't move a post, dig around it until you can. Continue rocking the post until you can drag it up out of the hole.

    • 4

Break the concrete off the posts with the sledge hammer. Recycle the posts and the fence. Haul the concrete chunks to your local landfill.

Tips & Warnings

  • Concrete is recyclable, so check with your local recyclers.
