Instructions

    • 1

Blot up as much of the wine as possible. Use a thick layer of paper towels to carefully dab at the stain. Switch to a fresh stack of paper towels as one becomes filled with wine. Avoid rubbing or the wine may spread. Continue blotting until no more wine transfers from the furniture to the paper towels.

    • 2

Fill an empty spray bottle with cool water. Thoroughly rinse out the bottle in case any traces of a cleaning product or other residue could still be in the bottle.

    • 3

Mist the wine stain lightly with the cool water. Sprinkle a generous amount of table salt over the wine stain. Let the table salt remain on the stain for a few minutes. The salt will help to absorb the wine.

    • 4

Brush the salt from the furniture using a dry rag. Brush gently so not to grind the salt into the furniture.

    • 5

Fill a bowl with 1 tbsp. of bleach-free liquid dish soap and 2 cups of cool water. Use a spoon to combine the soap and water.

    • 6

Dip a clean, white rag into the bowl of soapy water. Sponge the wine stain with the soapy water. Follow up by blotting the stained area with a dry rag.

    • 7

Repeat this process of blotting with the soapy water then blotting with a dry rag until the wine stain disappears. Rinse the spot with plain, cool water and a rag to remove any soap residue. Blot with a dry rag to absorb the excess water.

    • 8

Use club soda if the wine stain does not come out with the dish soap. Pour some club soda into an empty spray bottle. Spray a moderate amount of the club soda onto the stain. Blot with paper towels until the stain is gone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always test the product you are using on a small, inconspicuous area of the furniture prior to applying it to a more noticeable area.
