Turn a blanket into a child's fort

Summertime for many kids means playing at the park, swimming at a local pond and bike rides to the ice cream shop. Unfortunately, summer also has rainy days that must be spent indoors waiting for the clouds to part. Make these long, otherwise boring days more fun by building an indoor fort for the children to play in. Adults can also get into the fun by turning the fort into a reading nook or a miniature movie theater.

Things You'll Need

  • Several blankets
  • Pillows
  • Couch

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cushions from a living room couch.

    • 2

Drape a thin blanket over the couch. Use the cushions from the couch to anchor the blanket to the couch.

    • 3

Place two dining room chairs approximately 5 feet from the couch. Keep the chairs' backs facing toward the couch to make more room in the fort.

    • 4

Drape the other side of the blanket over the two chairs.

    • 5

Attach the blanket to the chairs with clothes pins. If the chair backs are too thick, use a few books to keep the blanket anchored to the chair's seats.

    • 6

Place pillows and blankets on the floor underneath the blanket. This will provide a soft cushion for the fort.

    • 7

Bring a flashlight, a few adventure books and a bowl of popcorn into the fort. Turn the flashlight on and turn the fort into the reading room.

Tips & Warnings

  • Turn the fort into a miniature movie theater with a laptop computer and a few movies.
