How to Install Windows Service Pack 1
Service Pack 1 is an update for Windows operating systems which contains important system updates that will fix bugs, improve security, support new hardware and emerging standards and increase overall efficiency and reliability . Service Pack 1 was developed over many months to ensure that all of the new features worked correctly and did not cause any errors in the system. It is available as a free download, as Microsoft would like it to be installed on all computers using their operating systems.

Download the appropriate Service Pack 1 file for your computer's operating system and hardware type from Microsoft's Download Center website.

Open the file that was downloaded to your computer. Click "Run" to start the installation process.

Read the guidelines and options that are presented in the installation window and then hit the "Install" button.

Reboot your computer for the Service Pack 1 files to be applied.

Tips & Warnings
Be prepared to leave your computer on and connected to the Internet for an extended period of time, as the file to download is quite large.
Copying the file to a disk will allow you to easily install Service Pack 1 on multiple machines without having to download it repeatedly.
If you download the wrong file for your system, it will not be able to install. There is a version for x64 systems, and one for x86 systems.
