Sending a photo to a cell phone via email requires you to know the recipient's wireless carrier.

While multimedia messaging (MMS) is an easy way to send photos from one phone to another, sending photos from a computer to a phone is not as obvious. However, as long as you know the phone number and wireless provider of the recipient, you can send a photo to his cell phone without too much difficulty.

Determine the email address to which you will send the photo, based on the recipient's phone number and wireless provider. Make sure you use the 10-digit phone number of your recipient. For AT&T, use [phone number]@mms.att.net. For Verizon, use [phone number]@vtext.com. For Sprint, use [phone number]@messaging.sprintpcs.com. For T-Mobile, use [phone number]@tmomail.net. For example, if your recipient was a Verizon subscriber with phone number (123) 456-7890, you would use the address 1234567890@vtext.com.

Compose your email and add the photo as an attachment. Note that your message will be converted to plain text, so colors, fonts and sizes will all become uniform (like a text message).

Send your email message. Your recipient will receive the photo as an MMS.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your recipient has a smartphone and automatically receives emails on her mobile device, you can just send the photo to your recipient's regular email address and she will receive it on her phone.

  • Your recipient will incur MMS charges for the message, so make sure to check with her before sending a photo.
