How to Get Rid of Shield Bugs

Shield bugs can damage your garden and get into your house.

Bugs are an inevitable part of having a lawn or garden. Some bugs, however, are more harmful than others. Shield bugs, or stink bugs, can move from the garden into your home, increasing their pest factor exponentially. These bugs also eat fruit, vegetables and vegetation in your garden. If you see shield bugs around, take a couple steps to get rid of them.

Things You'll Need

• Cement sealant
• Insecticide
• Vacuum cleaner

Instructions

1. Identify shield bugs before you attempt to exterminate them. These bugs are wide, shield shaped and can be brown or green with red markings. You will see them on plants, in the driveway and on the walls of your home.

2. Seal any holes in your walls to keep the bugs from hiding in your house once you start spraying. Use cement sealant on holes in the walls and check doors and windows for tight seals. Pay special attention to holes and cracks near the ground.

3. Spray insecticide on the outer walls of your home and into any cracks. Pay particular attention to the area where your walls meet the ground, as this is the most likely hangout for bugs.

4. Use your vacuum to suck any dead bugs out of cracks and throw them away.
