How to Trim a Schnoodle Dog
Schnoodles are mixed-breed dogs, bred from miniature or toy poodles and schnauzers. Since they are not pure bred, their coat type can be hard to predict. Some schnoodles may have the curly, nonshedding coat of a poodle; others the straighter double coat of a schnauzer. Most commonly the schnoodle coat will be in between, somewhat long and wavy. Choose your schnoodle trim based on its coat type and how you want it to look.

- Pin brush or de-shedding tool
- Dog shampoo
- Cordless trimmer
- Trimmer blades

Remove your schnoodle's collar and brush its fur with a pin brush (for curly-coated schnoodles) or de-shedding tool (for straighter fur) to remove loose hair and tangles.

Bathe your schnoodle with mild dog shampoo and allow the coat to dry completely.

Use a number-30 blade if you want a longer trim for your schnoodle, or a number 4F blade for a short "puppy cut." Stand your schnoodle on a table and start trimming its body along the back and sides. Work from the neck down toward the tail.

Trim the stomach, legs, feet and face with a number-10 blade. This creates a neater appearance.

Finish up by shaping your schnoodle's tail, ears, feet and face with a pair of round-tipped trimming scissors. Trim a little at a time, combing the fur out as you work to make sure it's even.

Thin coarse or heavy fur with thinning shears to give a softer, more layered look. Schnoodles often have heavy fur on their faces and above their eyes

Tips & Warnings
The "puppy cut" is the easiest style to maintain. Your schnoodle's fur will be cut fairly short, but left longer on its head, legs and tail.
Most pet-supply stores sell grooming kits with clippers, a set of blades, trimming scissors and instructions for basic cuts.
Make trimming your schnoodle a positive experience by giving it small treats and praise as you finish each section.
