How to Draw a Rectangle in Photoshop thumbnail
Shapes are easy in Photoshop.

In addition to sophisticated photo editing tools, Photoshop also includes basic graphics tools such as the ability to draw shapes and insert text. The shape drawing tools differ from the selection tools, which select an area of the image but do not embed a shape in the image, so ensure that you have selected the proper tool from the toolbar when inserting shapes.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your image in Photoshop and decide where you want to place the rectangle, as well as the approximate size you want.

    • 2

Click the rectangle tool from the toolbar on the left of your screen to activate it. This is a vertical bar that has buttons with various icons in them, such as a paint bucket. The rectangle tool is found lower down on the bar, and is in the form of a partially shaded rectangle. The rectangle made up of dotted lines is called the marquee tool, and is used for selection of an area of the image.

    • 3

Place the cursor on the upper left hand corner of the point where you want your rectangle. Click and drag the mouse to create the rectangle of the desired dimensions.

    • 4

Save your work if you are satisfied with the rectangle. If not, select "Edit" then "Undo" from the menu bar at the top of the screen and try again.
