How to Replace the Speakers in a 2000 Dodge Durango
Most 2000 Dodge Durangos came standard-equipped with a factory stereo sound system that includes speakers in the dashboard and front and rear doors. If it becomes necessary to replace the speakers, it's fairly easy to do it yourself with the correct tools. It can also save you the time and expense of having to pay a professional to make the repair.
Things You'll Need
- Flat-blade screwdriver
- Phillips screwdriver
- Torx T20 driver
- Panel tool 7mm socket and driver
- 10mm socket and driver

For The Dashboard Speakers

Run your fingers onto the top of the front pillar trim panel on the driver's side. Hook your fingers into the panel and pull down firmly, releasing the trim panel. Located on the back of the trim panel is a small plastic strap. Slide the plastic strap off, removing the trim panel.

Pry open two plastic screw covers on the passenger side of the front pillar trim. Remove the 10mm screws behind them. Using your fingers, pull the trim panel off from the top edge.

Pull up the front portion of the dashboard nearest the window with the speaker grilles with your panel tool. Once loose, lift the panel up and remove it.

Remove the two 7mm screws holding each speaker in place, using your screwdriver. Lift the speakers out, disconnecting the plugs connected to them.

Plug the wiring connector into your new speakers. Mount them in place and secure tightly with the original screws. Reassemble the panels you removed by following the same steps you used in the removal process, only this time in reverse.
For The Front Door Speakers

Remove the screws on the door pull release trim with a Phillips-head screwdriver.

Pry up the panel with the power window switches, starting from the rear and using your panel tool. Lift it out and unplug the wiring harnesses.

Remove the screws from the bottom of the door panel, then pry out the top edge of the plastic sail panel on the front edge of the door's panel. Lift it up and then remove the door panel.

Remove the three Torx T20 screws holding the speaker in place, using your Torx T20 driver. Unplug the speaker connector, plug in the new speaker and secure it in place by replacing the screws.

Reassemble the door panel by following the same steps that you used in the removal process, only this time in reverse.
For The Rear Door Speakers

Remove the screws on the door pull release trim, using your Phillips-head screwdriver.

Pull up the power window switch. Unplug the wiring and remove it.

Remove the screws at the bottom door panel, using the Phillips-head screwdriver.

Lift the door panel and remove it from the door.

Unscrew the three Torx screws holding the speaker in place, using your Torx T20 driver. Lift the speaker out and unplug the wiring. Connect the new speaker to the wiring and then put it back into place with the Torx screws. Reassemble the door by following the same steps you used in the removal process, only this time in reverse.
