How to Change a Digital Modem Laptop to a Dial-Up Modem
Most laptops are now packaged with a digital modem built into the hardware of the computer (the Ethernet DSL connection). This gives you a far superior connection speed than what a dial-up modem provides. However, if you do not want to spend the additional monthly payments on more expensive DSL Internet you can change your computer to accept a dial-up modem. Dial-up modem service usually costs only around $10 a month.

2
Plug the USB cable running out of the modem into one of the available USB ports on your computer.

3
Insert the driver installation CD into the CD drive of the laptop. Momentarily a driver installation wizard appears on the screen.

Click the "Next" button, then read through and accept any license agreement given. Leave the installation name and location as the default settings, then click "Install" to install the drivers. Once the drivers are installed you are free to connect to a dial-up source by plugging a phone line cable into the phone line port on the dial-up modem.
