How to Assemble a Bicycle Seat
You've just purchased a brand new bicycle seat--one that will eliminate seat discomfort once and for all--and now you just have to mount it on your bike. Of course, you have to take the old seat off first. Spare yourself another shop bill and do the job yourself.

Old Seat Disassembly
-
1
Measure the height and setback of your current seat. The setback is the distance from the nose of your seat to the handlebars. This measurement will give you an idea of the proper positioning of your new seat once installed. Make a note of the numbers, and set them aside for now.
-
2
Use a proper-sized Allen wrench to loosen the bolt(s) on the underside of your old seat. These bolts hold a pair of plates in place that clamp over the seat rails, securing the seat to the seatpost.
-
-
3
Remove the top plate from the clamp and lift the old seat off of the seatpost.
New Seat Assembly
-
4
Place the rails on the underside of your seat in the grooves on the tip of the seatpost.
-
5
Place the top plate over the seat rails and insert the bolt(s) though the bottom of the clamp plates.
-
6
Tighten each bolt just enough to keep the seat from slipping.
-
7
Adjust the height and setback of your new seat. To adjust the height, loosen the Allen bolt at the base of the seatpost, which will allow you to raise or lower the post. The setback can be adjusted by moving the seat forward or backward inside the clamp plates.
-
8
Straighten the seat so it's level and straight. The tip of the seat should be in line with the top tube of the bicycle frame. Once your adjustment is complete, fully tighten the clamp plate bolts beneath the seat and the bolt at the base of the seatpost (if you adjusted seat height).
