Fix a copy-and-paste virus before your fingers fall off from having to type everything manually.

Your computer's copy and paste tools are the sort of functions you take for granted until they break. If a virus has disabled or disrupted your ability to copy and paste though, it doesn't take long to get sick of having to manually retype everything. A variety of viruses can control your copy and paste and many of them will be impacting other aspects of your PC too, perhaps without you even realizing it. Luckily Microsoft includes a tool with all Windows computers to fix nasty little viruses like this.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Microsoft's "Malicious Software Removal Tool." To do so, select "Run" from you computer's Start menu and type "MRT." This application comes already installed on Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 computers. If you cannot find it, download a new copy from Resources.

    • 2

      Click "Next."

    • 3

Select "Full Scan." While this takes longer than the default "Quick Scan," it is more likely to find and remove a copy-and-paste virus.

    • 4

Click "Next" and wait for the scan to finish.

    • 5

Follow the prompts that appear to remove any viruses that might control copy and paste.

    • 6

      Click "Finish."

    • 7

      Restart your computer.
