How to Make Graduation Cap Announcements

Make graduation cap announcements on your computer.

As your graduate's big day approaches, do not neglect the graduation announcements. If you have a graphics program on your computer, you can easily make graduation cap announcements to send to friends and family to announce the big achievement. Many graphics programs have preset shapes you can use to create the graduation cap. In the absence of this, you can find an image that is free to use on the Internet.

Things You'll Need

• Graphics program
• Card stock
• Printer
• Scissors
• Flash drive (optional)

Instructions

1. Open your graphics program and open a new background layer with dimensions of 6 inches by 4 inches. Fill this background layer with white color.

2. Open the presets shapes tool in your program and browse through the selections to see if a graduation cap is available to use within your program. Select the graduation cap if you find one and drag your mouse across the background layer to draw the cap onto the layer. Make the image fill up as much of the background layer as possible.

3. If you cannot find a preset shape, browse the Internet for an image that you can use that does not have any copyright attached to it. Find an image of a cap you can download and then open it within the graphics program. Paste the graduation cap onto the background layer and resize it so it is just slightly smaller than the background layer.

4. Select the text tool within the program and choose a font, a font size and a font color. Using one of the graduate's school colors for the text would be appropriate. Position the cursor inside the graduation cap and begin to enter the text that announces the graduation. Include a heading, such as "Congratulations Graduate!" or something suitable. Add the graduate's name, the date of the graduation and any party information if you are having a party. Include the names of the parents at the bottom of the announcement.

5. Proofread the announcement to make sure it looks the way you desire. Make any adjustments and then merge the layers so there is one layer remaining that contains the entire announcement. Save the announcement on your hard drive.

6. Place card stock into your printer and use your printer to print the announcements. Alternatively, you can transfer the file to a flash drive and take the file to a professional printer and have the announcements printed there.
