  • Roofing adherent (tar)
  • Caulking gun
  • Putty knife
  • Shingle granules

Instructions

    • 1

      Cut the tip of the roofing adherent (tar) with a utility knife at a 45-degree angle.

      Insert the roofing adherent into the caulking gun and prime the gun by pressing the trigger once.

    • 3

      Lift the cracked shingle with a putty knife.

    • 4

      Lay down a thick bead of the tar under the cracked shingle.

    • 5

      Press the shingle onto the tar.

    • 6

      Lay down a second bead of tar on top of the cracked shingle and smooth over with a putty knife.

    • 7

      Hide the repair by sprinkling asphalt roofing granules on the tar. Collect these from the rain gutters on the roof.
