How to Cleanse the Air

How to Cleanse the Air thumbnail
The air inside your home can be just as bad as the air outside.

The air inside your home can be just as polluted as the air outside. Cleaning products, fireplaces, heaters, paints, household appliances and other items commonly found in homes can all put toxins into your home's air. The key to keeping your indoor air clean is to remove toxins and add negative ions into the air. Negative ions are invisible molecules that are found in an abundance at beaches, waterfalls and mountains. Negative ions can increase your production of serotonin--a mood chemical that relieves stress and depression, boosts your daytime energy and allows you to sleep better at night. Instructions

    • 1

Keep your air filters clean. Air filters take the old dirty air from your home and cleanse it. When the air filter becomes dirty, however, it does not work properly and puts dirty air back into your home.

    • 2

Add houseplants. Houseplants aid in ridding your home of toxins and air pollutants. Adding houseplants to your home will reduce the benzene, carbon monoxide, trichloroethylene and formaldehyde levels in your home. English ivy, peace lily, rubber plant and Boston fern are just a few plants that can help keep the air in your home clean.

    • 3

Burn beeswax candles. Unlike other candles, beeswax candles do not pollute the air and actually remove pollution and increase the level of negative ions in the air.

    • 4

Use a diffuser with eucalyptus oil. Eucalyptus oil does not have the same pleasant fragrance like other aromatherapy oil. But eucalyptus oil has many heath benefits and cleans the air naturally. If you do not have a diffuser, simply place a few drops of eucalyptus oil onto a light bulb.
