How to Make Basil-Infused Vodka
Basil-infused vodka is a very easy-to-make liqueur that can spice up many different cocktails. Adding basil-infused vodka to a vodka martini or just drinking it on the rocks can greatly enhance the flavors of the right meal, particularly those that include roasted meats and earthy vegetables like potatoes and carrots. Basil-infused vodka can also be used to marinate meats, particularly beef and pork, to add an intriguing depth. This recipe makes one 750 mL bottle of basil-infused vodka. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 1½ cups fresh basil, washed and dried
- Large pitcher
- 750 mL vodka
- Clean 750 mL bottle
- Coffee filter
- Paper or plastic label

Place the fresh basil in a clean, large pitcher and pour 750 mL vodka over the top.

Store the infusing vodka in a dark, dry place for five weeks, shaking the bottle daily.

Strain the fresh basil out of the vodka through a coffee filter, catching the basil-infused vodka in a separate, clean 750 mL bottle.

Label the bottle to note that it is basil-infused vodka, and place a date on the bottle.

Tips & Warnings
For an interesting blend, add 4 teaspoons of cracked peppercorns along with the basil.
Don't keep the infused vodka for any longer than one year. It will lose most of its intensity and flavor.
