If your laptop's screen is not working, it can be replaced

If they are physically damaged or exposed to electricity from a power surge, laptop LCD screens will either display blank pixels or an entirely dead screen. Upgrading to a new laptop if your screen dies is an expensive option which you can avoid by simply replacing the screen. The screen is held in place by a standard set of screws that can be removed with normal tools in a short amount of time.

Instructions

      Exit any open programs and turn off the Acer 5000's operating system. Unplug the AC adapter and any USB devices connected to the computer.

      Close the Acer 5000's lid and turn the laptop over so that you can see the bottom half of the case. Push over the release bar and pull the battery pack out of the 5000's case.

      Return the Acer 5000 back to its original position open up the lid. Locate the four rubber screw seals at the corners of the LCD screen's plastic cover.

      Pull the screw seals off the LCD screen cover or pry them off with the edge of a flat-head screwdriver if you have trouble removing them with your fingers. Remove the four screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

      Remove the plastic cover from the LCD screen and then remove the screws located at the lower-right and lower-left corners of the screen. Grab the top edge of the screen and pull it forward towards you.

      Set the screen face down on the Acer 5000's keyboard. Unplug the video cable on the back side of the LCD screen.

      Set aside the malfunctioning LCD screen. Connect the video cable to the back of the replacement screen and then set the screen onto the Acer 5000 laptop. Attach the screws at the lower-left and lower-right corners.

      Replace the LCD screen cover, screws, and screw seals. Insert the battery pack into the Acer 5000's battery bay on the bottom side of the case.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may also need to replace the LCD screen's inverter board, which supplies power to the screen itself. The inverter board is the small green circuit board located just below the LCD screen. To replace it, you'll need to disconnect the cables on the left and right sides of the board and then pull it off the laptop.

  • Static electricity can have a devastating effect on laptop components. To prevent damage from occurring, ground yourself before removing the laptop's battery by touching a metal object outside the laptop.
