Memory Stick is a proprietary brand of flash, solid state memory. It is primarily used for storing media in Sony products, including Sony's Cyber-shots line of cameras, which includes point-and-click type cameras and fully featured, digital single lens reflex (DSLR) cameras. Instructions

    • 1

Refer to Sony's website (see below) for a compatibility chart to see whether your Sony Cyber-shot camera is compatible with the Memory Stick type you are trying to use. There are also numerous types of Memory Stick including High Speed Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick PRO-HG, PSP Memory Stick, and Memory Stick Micro.

Reformat the Memory Stick if the Memory Stick is compatible with your Sony Cyber-shot camera. Try to download any images to your computer that you have on the Memory Stick first because reformatting the Memory Stick will delete the images. You will need to use a dedicated card reader if the Sony Cyber-shot can't see the images.

    • 3

Check whether the write protect switch on the Memory Stick is in the "Off" position if you can see images but can't take pictures. Make sure the Memory Stick isn't inserted backward.

    • 4

Make sure you haven't exceeded the capacity of the Memory Stick. Delete some images and see whether the card's performance improves.

    • 5

Try a new compatible Memory Stick.
