How to Send Money to Costa Rica
Sending money to a friend or relative in Costa Rica is a simple as completing a form. There are numerous companies offering money transfer services that allow you to send money worldwide. Western Union and MoneyGram are two well-known companies that allow you to send money online from the convenience of your home and/or in person. It may also be beneficial to check with your banking institution, as they normally offer money transfer services for a nominal fee.

Sending Money to Costa Rica Using MoneyGram

Locate a MoneyGram agent using their location search tool at Moneygram.com. To find agents in your area, select your country from the drop-down menu and select the type of service you're looking for. For more accurate search results enter your zip code or your city and state.

Visit the MoneyGram location. Make sure you bring a form a personal identification. A passport, driver's license or a government-issued ID are all acceptable forms of identification. Some MoneyGram locations may also require you to show proof of your address by showing your bank statement or utility bill.

Complete a "send" form and hand it to the MoneyGram agent along with the money you want to send. Pay applicable transfer fees. See resources to calculate how much it will cost send money. You can also include a free 10-word message to the recipient.

Write down your reference number and contact the person you're sending the money to. Give her the reference number so she can go to a MoneyGram agent and collect the money. The funds are usually available within ten minutes of you sending it.

Use the drop-down menu to select the U.S. state you're sending money from.

Choose the money transfer service you want to use to send money to Costa Rica. There are currently four options available, but Money in Minutes is the only service available to send funds to Costa Rica. The Money in Minutes service generally makes funds available within minutes of it being sent.

Sign in to your account to complete this transaction or register for one if you're a new customer. If you are a new customer, you need to create an account to use Western Union online services. To create an account you need to provide personal information such as your name, card billing address and phone number, an email address and your date of birth.

Enter the recipient's information and the amount you would like to send. Select type of credit card you would like to pay with and the credit card information. Click "Submit."

Save your Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) and call customer service at (800) 325-6000 to confirm your transaction. You may need to call customer service to verify that the funds have been sent.
