How to Design Your Own Prepaid Credit Card

How to Design Your Own Prepaid Credit Card thumbnail
You can design your own prepaid credit card with a photo or default template.

Prepaid credit cards are accounts that help younger adults build and manage credit without the risk of debt. Prepaid credit card companies set up a separate savings account--the balance in the account determines the credit line on the account. Just like some unsecured credit cards, prepaid credit cards can be customized. This process is relatively simple (and fun!) once you find a participating company.

Instructions

    • 1

Research companies that participate in customized, prepaid credit card programs. This is relatively easy. Some participating companies include CitiGroup and PayJr. Most of these companies offer customization services online.

    • 2

Decide how you want to design your card. Some consumers scroll through the default templates offered by the company and choose a design. However, most companies allow you to upload one of your own photos to use as a background on your card.

    • 3

Apply for a prepaid card on the company's website. Make sure you are applying for a prepaid card--double-check the terms of the agreement. In most cases you'll need to also sign up for a separate savings account that will keep the money used as collateral for the card.

    • 4

Choose a default design or upload your photo once you've completed the application on the company website. If you're uploading a photo, adhere to the size constraints listed on the website. You may need to resize a photo if it is too large.

    • 5

Review the preview image of your prepaid credit card. If the card looks correct and is up to your standard, submit your application. Most prepaid credit cards are guaranteed so long as you have money in the separate account. Cards arrive between two and six weeks later.
