Fleece Blanket & Pillow Instructions
Sometimes you need a quick gift. You want to make something but don't have enough time. A fleece blanket and pillow set fit the bill nicely. This set is made with two different colors or patterns, for variety in use. The project takes one afternoon to finish, and the process is simple enough that school children can successfully complete it.

Blanket Instructions
-
1
Cut two pieces of fleece, each 2 yards long. The fleece will come from the store measuring about 54 inches wide. The two pieces should be complimenting colors, or one solid color and one pattern.
-
2
Lay the pieces of fleece on a table or other flat surface. Lay one on top of the other, matching up all the corners. Lay the two layers so that the right sides are on the outsides, with the back of the two fabrics touching.
-
-
3
Cut a square out of each corner, 3 inches on a side. You will be cutting off all four corners of both fabric pieces. Keep the wrong sides of the fleece layers together and cut both at the same time.
-
4
Cut the edges of the fleece pieces into strips. Cut from the edge in toward the center. Cut in 3 inches. Cut another strip on the same edge 1 inch further away. Continue cutting strips, each one 1 inch from the last, making sure that they are all 3 inches long. Cut both fleece layers, along all four edges. You will end up with fleece pieces that look like they have fringe on the edges.
-
5
Begin at the upper right hand corner. Tie the first set of fringe strips together using a square knot. You will be tying together the first strip of the top fabric and the first strip of the bottom fabric together. Continue tying sets of fringe strips until you have tied all of the strips all around the entire edge of the blanket.
Pillow Instructions
-
6
Measure your pillow form. The form should be either square or rectangular. Add 6-1/2 inches in each direction from your measurements.
-
7
Cut one piece of each fleece fabric piece in the dimensions that you have figured in Step 1. Lay the fleece pieces on a table, one on top of the other, with all the edges matching. Lay the wrong sides touching each other, and the right sides on the outside of the layers.
-
8
Measure in 3 inches from the corner and cut a square from each fabric corner. Each corner in both layers should have a 3-inch square removed from it.
-
9
Cut every edge of both layers into strips. Cut from the edge in toward the center. Make the first cut 1 inch from the removed square. Cut in 3 inches toward the center. Make another cut 1 inch farther along the edge from the first cut. Continue cutting both layers of fabric into strips until you have a fringe around all four sides.
-
10
Tie the upper right pair of strips together using a square knot. You will be tying together the top right strip of both the upper and lower layers of fabric. Continue tying pairs of fabric along three sides of the pillow cover. Slip the pillow form inside the pillow cover and continue tying strips until the pillow form has been encased and the fringe has been totally knotted.
