Remove the search history drop-down box.

When you type a web address into an address bar, your computer stores that information as search history. That information reappears when you press the down arrow in the address bar or begin typing similar search terms into the address bar. You might not want your previous search history available for viewing, especially if you share you computer with others. No need to worry, because you can remove the search history drop-down box with a simple procedure.

Instructions

  1. In Interent Explorer

    • 1

Click inside the address bar to position your cursor within the box and press the "down arrow" key to cause the search history stored within the bar to appear in a drop-down box, or click on the down arrow located on the extreme right of the address bar.

    • 2

Click on an item within the history list to select it.

    • 3

Press the "delete" key to delete your selection.

    In Mozilla Firefox

    • 4

      Click "History."

    • 5

      Click "Show All History."

    • 6

Click on an item in the right pane to select it. Press the "delete" key to delete it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hold down the "delete" key to delete all items within the box back to back (in Internet Explorer).

  • Hold down the "control" key to select multiple items at one time rather than deleting each one manually (in Mozilla Firefox).

  • Beware of deleting search history that you might want to refer to later because it will not reappear in the box until you retype the information into it.
