1
Snap a chalk line on the concrete area to be cut. A chalk line is a hand-held container that holds powdered chalk. When the string comes out of the container, a fine layer of chalk remains on the string. When snapped, a straight chalk line remains.
-
2
Place a 1-by-6 along the chalk line to act as a straight edge to score the concrete.

3
Score a line with the concrete saw along the 1-by-6 as you walk backward on the board. Cut the line about 1/4 inch deep.
-
4
Remove the 1-by-6 board and cut the rest of the way through the concrete. The cutoff saw with a diamond blade is designed to run at high speeds with little pressure. The scored line will guide the saw and cut a straight line.

Tips & Warnings
The cutoff saw creates a lot of dust, so try to cut so the dust is not blown back in your face.
Put on safety glasses and a dust mask before you start to score the concrete.
The cutoff saw throws small pieces of cement behind the saw as it cuts. Watch out for others behind you when you are cutting.
