How to Clear PC RAM

Clear your RAM regularly to keep your computer running smoothly.

All computers have Random Access Memory, or RAM. The RAM module reads and temporarily stores data from all programs that you run on your computer. Since it stores the data, it reduces the amount of time it takes to read the programs, which in turn makes the computer run faster. The only downside is that when a computer runs considerably low in RAM, it can actually slow the computer down. Fortunately, RAM is easy to clear without the need for special software.

Instructions

1. Look at the programs on the right side of the task bar and decide which ones you want to keep open. Right-click on the icon of programs you don't want to use and click on "Close."

2. Press the CTRL, ALT and Delete buttons on the keyboard at the same time to open the Task Manager. Click on the Applications tab to view the programs that are currently in use. Click on each program you want to close. Click on End Task to close the chosen programs.

3. Restart the computer if you want to completely clear the RAM. All of the data files in the RAM from your most recent session will be deleted.
