How To Print an MS Publisher 2007 Document in Word 2007 thumbnail
You can save your Publisher text and graphics and print them in Word.

If you try to open a Microsoft Publisher 2007 document in Word 2007 you get a screenful of garbage as your computer attempts to translate between the two programs. One way to print a Publisher file in Word is to save the text of the Publisher file as a Word file. You can copy individual graphics from Publisher to Word by copying and pasting. If you have a calendar page or several objects you want, you can also save an entire page as a graphic and insert the picture into Word.

Instructions

  1. Save the Text and Copy the Graphics

    • 1

Open Publisher and bring up the document you want to save.

    • 2

Click on "File," then click "Save As" to open the Save As dialog box.

    • 3

Type in a name for the file in the File name box or leave the name as is. Publisher is going to save this file as a DOCX (Word) file, so you won't overwrite your original Publisher file.

    • 4

Click the "Save as type" drop-down arrow and select "Word 2007 Document." You may need to scroll down to see the selection.

    • 5

Click "Save" and you will see a warning that you can only save the text of the file. Click "OK."

    • 6

Open Microsoft Word and the file you just saved. Your file contains the text from your Publisher file, including any fonts you used in the Publisher file. If you have a calendar, the calendar will be a large table in Word.

    • 7

Copy and paste individual graphics from Publisher to Word by moving between the two open applications. In Publisher, right-click any graphic you want to copy into Word and select "Copy." Move to your Word document and right-click and select "Paste" to add the graphic to your document. Once you have all the graphics you want to keep, save your file.

    • 8

Print your Word file by clicking on the "Office" button and selecting "Print," then "OK."

Save a Page or Two as Graphics

    • 9

Open your Publisher file and press "Ctrl-A" to select an entire page. If you want to save two facing pages, you will need to click on "View" and "Two-page spread" so you can save both pages before pressing "Ctrl+A."

    • 10

Click on the objects you want to save as a picture with your right mouse key and select "Save as a Picture." In the resulting dialog box, give the group of objects a name and then choose a graphic option: PNG Portable Network Graphics Format, JPEG File Interchange Format or Enhanced Metafile format.

    • 11

      Open Word.

    • 12

Click on the "Insert" tab then select "Picture." Select the graphic you just created to insert it into Word.

    • 13

      Print the Word document.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you are inserting whole Publisher pages as graphics you may need to adjust the margins in Word to fit the graphic.

  • If you save a Publisher calendar as a graphic, you cannot make changes to the calendar in Word.
