How to Make a Homemade Wolf Costume

How to Make a Homemade Wolf Costume thumbnail
Wolves acts as both villains and heroes in children's literature.

A wolf costume is a timeless costume for Halloween or a costume party. Wolves are a classic figure of malevolence and bravery in literature and films, taking center stage as both villains and heroes. In your wolf costume, you can portray either; it all depends on how you act once you don the garments. Your wolf costume doesn't have to be a standard one-piece affair that covers your entire body. Instead, you can look more frightening or more friendly as a wolf in human's clothing.

Instructions

    • 1

Take a piece of fake fur that is 15 inches by 40 inches in size and fold it in half. Cut a rounded portion for your face. This will be the hooded part of the costume.

    • 2

Cut four equilateral triangles out of the fake fur that are 3 inches on each side. Put them all fur-side down. Stick a generous piece of two-sided tape on the fabric side of each triangle.

    • 3

Cut a 5-inch piece of pipe cleaner and lay it vertically on two of the four triangles, pressing it into the two-sided tape.

    • 4

Press another fur triangle against the pipe cleaner, with the fabric side touching the pipe cleaner. You should now have two triangles in total, with fur on the front and back of the triangle, sandwiching a piece of pipe cleaner.

    • 5

Poke two small holes into your fur hood. They should be 3 inches apart and 3 inches from the front edge of the hood.

    • 6

Poke the pipe cleaner ends of your two triangles into each hole. Fold the pipe cleaner taut against the inner side of your hole. These are your ears.

    • 7

Press two long pieces of two-sided tape onto a wool cap. Place your fur hood with wolf ears onto the cap. Add more tape if necessary.

    • 8

Put on your work gloves and trace their outline, with an extra 1-inch allowance all around, onto the fake fur.

    • 9

Cut out the outlines and attach each tracing to the back of the work gloves with two-sided tape.

    • 10

Trace your shoes on a piece of the fake fur, leaving a 1-inch margin all around. Also draw three pointy toes at the front of each outline.

    • 11

Cut out the tracings and lay them one on top of each shoe. With a pair of scissors, feel where the eyelets of your shoelace holders are and match their positions on the fake fur. Poke a hole with your scissors for each one.

    • 12

Thread shoelaces in between your new holes on the fake fur. The shoes laces will keep the fur overlay on top of your shoes.

    • 13

Cut a tail out of the remaining fabric at least 1 inch wide, making it as long as you would like it to be.

    • 14

Tuck the tail into the back of your pants or, if you don't mind, cut a small hole in the back of your pants and adhere the tail with some two-sided tape.

    • 15

Put on a button-down shirt, tie and pants with tail, as well as all the wolf parts of your costume. You should look like a wolf in a human's clothing. Consider adding a wolf or dog's nose from a costume party shop.
