How to Change the Battery in a Timex 1440 Calculator Watch
Since the 1850s, Timex has been focused on making quality mass-produced watches. Timex is well known for making inexpensive watches that serve specific functions, such as lap timing or calculator watches. Replacing the battery in a Timex watch requires concentration and the use of proper tools, as it is a somewhat complicated task. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Timex watch
- Replacement battery
- Small screwdriver
- Metal tweezers or paperclip
- Soft cloth
Instructions
-
-
1
Place the watch face down on a soft cloth to prevent scratching the crystal or face of the watch.
-
2
Remove the screws on the back plate of the watch, then remove the back plate to expose the battery. This may require using the small screwdriver to pry off the back plate, but in most cases it will remove easily.

-
3
If there is a sticker on the battery, read and remove it from the battery.
-
4
Remove the battery strap if your model has one. This may require removing screws, depending on the model.
-
5
Remove and replace the battery, then replace the battery strap as it was originally found.

6
Reset the watch. If the sticker had directions that pointed to a spot, link that spot with the battery using metal tweezers (or a paperclip). This spot will usually be marked AC in some way, if there is no sticker to indicate the location.
-
7
Place the sticker you took off the old battery onto the new battery. Replace the back plate on the watch and tighten all screws.

Tips & Warnings
Never flip the watch over while replacing the battery, as inner parts may fall out.
Be sure to replace with the proper type of battery. If possible, take the old battery with you while purchasing a new battery.
If at any time you do not feel comfortable changing the battery, take it to a professional.
