      Lay your jeans on a clean, flat surface, back side up.

      Lay the shorts over the jeans, matching up the waistband and inseam.

      Trace the cuff of the shorts onto the jeans with the chalk. This should give you an outline to use when cutting the jeans.

      Remove the shorts and fold the jeans in half, so that you see one back pocket and leg.

      Cut the jeans with the scissors, both legs at once, following the chalked outline. This should leave you with a new pair of jean shorts.
