How to Take a Screenshot on a Macintosh System
Screenshots allow users to freeze a moment in time. It captures the full screen, window or selected area of the screen as it appears. Users take screenshots for documentation and expository purposes. Macintosh computer users take screenshots using key combinations called shortcuts. These key combinations allow users to take screenshots of an entire screen, a specific window or a selected area. Mac users can save screenshots to a file on the desktop or save the information to the clipboard.

Press Command, Shift and 3 at the same time to take a shot of the entire screen and save it to the desktop. To save it to the clipboard, press Control as well.

Press Command, Shift and 4 at the same time and select an area on the screen with the cursor to take a shot of an area on the screen and save it to the desktop. To save it to the clipboard, hold down the Control key in addition to the others.

Press Command, Shift and 4 at the same time and release them. Press the space bar and then click on a window on the screen to take a shot of the window and save it to the desktop. To save it to the clipboard, hold down the Control key in addition to the others.
