Identify where the sound is coming from. To do this, get on the bed and roll around the way you would when you are asleep. This can help you identify where the sound may be coming from and what area of the bed frame is affected.
-
2
Remove the mattress and the box spring.

3
Look at every attachment point in the frame. Squeaking only happens when something is rubbing against something else. Pay special attention to the hooks that hold the metal rails together, and the bolts or screws of the legs.
-
4
Tighten any bolts or screws that seem loose with a wrench or a screwdriver. Make sure that the screws are seated firmly. The rails should have little to no give when you push them.
-
5
Lay down newspaper underneath the bed frame. This will protect the carpet underneath.
-
6
Spray the joints with WD-40. This lubricant will help the rails of your bed frame move more smoothly when they need to move at all. You can use WD-40 on wood as well, but it needs to be used more sparingly.
-
7
Replace the box spring and the mattress.

Tips & Warnings
If you are still noticing squeaking after tightening and oiling the bed frame, install some plastic washers under the bolts or screws that seem to be creating the biggest problem. This can keep the metal from rubbing against itself and causing the squeaking.
For persistent squeaking, turn the box spring over, remove the dust cover and spray down the wooden joints with a small amount of WD-40.
Do not tighten the bolts or screws too tightly. This can strip the threads that allow them to do their work.
