How to Delete a Print Job

You can cancel or delete a print job if you decide that you don't want to print the document after all. You'll save paper and reduce the wear and tear on your printer if you cancel unwanted jobs, especially if the document is several pages long. These instructions are for Windows 98. Instructions for other operating systems or versions may vary.

    Canceling a Print Job on a Printer Connected Directly to Your Computer

  1. Step 1

    To cancel a print job, click on the Start menu and then click on Settings.

  2. Step 2

    From the Settings menu, click on Printers.

  3. Step 3

    A window will appear. Click on the icon representing the printer that you are using. A document window will appear. The document window lists all of the print jobs that are pending.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the document that you want to cancel. This selects the document.

  5. Step 5

    With the document selected, click on Cancel Printing. If the print job has already started, it should cancel after the current page finishes printing.

  6. Canceling a Print Job on a Networked Printer

  7. Step 1

    After you click Print, an icon for the printer you're using appears on the right of your Windows taskbar, beside the clock.

  8. Step 2

    Double-click on this printer icon to see a list of all the documents waiting to be printed.

  9. Step 3

    Select your document, then choose Cancel Printing from the Printing menu.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can't cancel someone else's print job, only your own.
