How to Get an IP Address From a Web Site Name
Website domains that we use in day-to-day life are not the actual names that are used by computer to get you to where you want to go. The computer uses an Internet Protocol (IP) address, a string of numbers that is assigned to each and every website that is online. By using the Windows ping command, you can quickly find out the IP address of a particular site you are interested in. This method will work on Windows XP, Vista and 7.

1
Open the command prompt by clicking "Start," "Run," typing "CMD" and hitting the Enter key.
-
2
Type "ping www.example.com" into the command prompt (without quotes) and hit the Enter key. Substitute in the name of your domain for "www.example.com."

Look at the four lines that start with "Reply from." The number that is listed after the "Reply from" (such as "Reply from 123.456.789.123") is the IP address of the server that is hosting the website that you pinged.
