How to Make Homemade Copper Cleaner

Keep your copper looking new with a homemade cleaner.

Copper is a metal used for many household items ranging from cookware to statues. Over time, the appearance of copper can become dull or stained. In order to keep it looking new, it needs a regular application of polish. While copper cleaner is readily available at any store with cleaning supplies, you can make your own cleaner at home for a fraction of the cost. With a couple common ingredients, you can produce a safe and effective copper cleaner.

Things You'll Need

• White vinegar
• Salt
• Bowl
• Spoon
• Soft cloth

Instructions

1. Add 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts salt to a bowl. For example, if you use 1 tbsp. vinegar, you need to add 2 tbsp. salt.

2. Stir the salt and vinegar with a spoon until it reaches the consistency of a thin paste. If the consistency seems too thick, simply add a few drops of vinegar at a time until it reaches a consistency of your liking.

3. Dip a soft cloth in the paste. Scrub the paste into the copper with the cloth. The salt will remove small debris while the vinegar will make the copper shine.
