How to Play Halo 3 on an Xbox 360 System Link
There are a number of ways to connect with other players on Xbox 360's Halo 3. The most popular method is logging into Xbox Live and joining the thousands of other gamers competing in the online matchmaking system. Another avenue is using system link. Linking other Xbox 360s together allows users to make a local area network (LAN) where gamers can create lobbies to join for other Xbox 360s connected to the same network. Setting up the LAN connection and playing the system link on Halo 3 is a simple process.

Decide how many consoles you would like to use for system link. The Xbox 360 allows users to connect up to four consoles. Be sure you have a TV for each Xbox 360.

Decide on your method of system link. There are three methods: direct Ethernet link, network hub link or an Xbox 360 wireless network adapter link. The direct Ethernet cable is the best link, but can only be performed with two Xbox 360s. The other two methods work well for three or more consoles.

Connect your consoles. If you are using the Ethernet cable link, simply connect the two consoles together via Ethernet cable. The hub link requires users to connect all consoles to the same network hub. The wireless network adapter link requires users to use their Xbox 360 wireless network adapters to connect up to four consoles. Each console must use a network adapter to make the connection.

Insert Halo 3 into each console involved in the system link.

Select "Custom Games" on the Halo 3 home screen for each console. This opens a custom game lobby.

Create a system link lobby on one console by selecting "Network," "System Link" then "Host Game." This creates a game lobby.

Join the game on all other consoles. Select "Network," "System Link" then "Join Game." Choose the appropriate game from the list.
